Homemade sugar scrub

Sugar is a wonderful addition to any homemade sugar scrub recipe. Scrubs are used primarily for their ability to exfoliate the skin leaving it feeling and looking soft and healthy. Sugar is an excellent choice to add to a homemade sugar scrub recipe because it is gentle on your skin. Not only does it clean the skin, but it heals and hydrates as well and can be used on skin type without concern. Every woman wants the perfect skin you see on the models in magazines and on television. Of course, the models do not have perfect skin because age, lifestyle, and environment leave their mark on every complexion. What the models have are talented makeup artists and photographers to make their complexions flawless.

Shea butter is widely used in many moisturizing products and cosmetics. Do you know that even Cleopatra was known to have used Shea butter? What is Shea Butter? According to the dictionary, "a whitish or yellowish fat obtained from the seeds of the shea tree, found in Africa, which is used as food and for making soap and candles." Well I certainly could not. I love body scrubs, body butters, and lotions of all types. I can spend a long time in one of these stores pouring over the variety of products and scents that are available to me. And it was a rare occasion where I left one of those stores with less than five bottles of goodies...until recently that is.

The list of homemade spa-quality products you can make is huge. You are really only limited by the recipes you have and the ability to find the different ingredients you want. After that, it is a matter of taking the time to play and create your own wonderful skin care products, all while saving a lot of money. Most scrub recipes include ingredients that soften the skin, open the pores, moisturize and heal the skin surface. Whether you're prone to breakouts on your chest or back, ingrown hairs, or itchy dry patches, a homemade body scrub can be made tailored especially for you. When applied in a gentle, circular motion to the skin while showering on a regular basis, you will quickly notice the difference in how your skin looks and feels.

Oatmeal is hypoallergenic. In case you have sensitive skin, using the oatmeal is highly recommended because it is soothing and there is no risk that it will irritate the skin. Oatmeal is benefitial to oily skin as it is extremely absorptive and picks up on excess oil. It helps dry and itchy skin and is widely used in cosmetics. Before you get down to the nitty-gritty and make your own scrub, you first need to decide if you would prefer a sugar or a salt based scrub. A salt based scrub provides a greater degree of invigoration to your skin--which is a plus--but on the negative side, it can sting if you have any small cuts etc on your skin (have you recently shaved your legs?). A sugar scrub, on the other hand, might not provide the same level of invigoration, but neither is it going to be such an agitation to a sore bikini-line.
